Repeat Prescription Service
In collaboration with Newport Surgery we offer a unique repeat prescription service. If you are currently registered with Newport Surgery and find yourself having to phone and then visit them each month to collect your usual prescription then this system will be a great help to you.
How will it help me?
Normally, you would have to phone your surgery to request your repeat prescription, listing all the medication you require or send in a repeat request form, with all the items you require ticked. The surgery would then request that you wait for 48 hours so they can print the script before checking and signing by the doctor. You would then have to collect the prescription from the surgery, and take it to the chemist of your choice to wait for it to be dispensed. Maybe the chemist of your choice hasn't got the items in stock at a time when you require it - necessitating a second return journey to the pharmacy? The 'repeat system service' cuts all of this out, giving instant access to your medication when you require it.
How does it work?
First of all, you and your doctor agree which items you require on a regular 'repeat' basis and which items you need only occasionally (so called 'acute' items). For example, you would take blood pressure medication daily, every day of the month, but perhaps only require laxtives on an irregular basis. When you go onto our "repeat system" those repeat medicines will be printed at whatever intervals you and your doctor agree on - normally every 28 days. Then, when you come to the end of your supply of medication, instead of phoning the surgery to get a new prescription you simply just come to us. (You can request your 'acute' items in the normal way - remember to ask the surgery to send them to the pharmacy for you to collect). Every 28 days, usually on a Monday, Newport Surgery will automaticaly send us the prescription form without you even having to request it. All the repeat prescriptions are printed together on "repeat prescription day," so as long as you call after this day you can have for your medication whenever you like.
Below is a complete list of, so called, "repeat Mondays": remember, as long as you only call for your repeat once in between these dates, you should be able to collect your prescriptions (Please note, if you are on 56-day or 84-day repeats your items will be printed every two or three 28-day cycles, respectively).

How do I collect my tablets?
There are two different ways to collect your repeat prescription.
1. By calling in the shop and asking a member of staff for your script, you can check your prescription and we can then dispense it for you while you wait.
2. By phoning us up, we can check the script over the phone with you and then dispense it, so that when you call in the shop it will be ready for you to collect, or alternatively we can deliver it to you.
We do not normally start to dispense prescriptions without the patients consent first. (One other reason is that there are simply too many of them)!
What if my medication changes?
If any of your medication changes the surgery will update your prescription before it reaches us, however it's always good practice to mention any changes to us so we can double check that any amendments to the script have been made, before we dispense it. This is particularly true if you pick up a repeat prescription that was printed on a date before you had any actual changes made.
Ok - I like the idea, so how do I get on the system?
Providing you are registered at Newport Surgery your GP will be happy to discuss your requirements and set you up on their computer repeats system.
